Grogol Residents Build Large Biopore Holes in Park Area

Residents of RW 02, Grogol Urban Village, West Jakarta, are utilizing the Gropilah Park (Grogol Sort Waste) land area on Jalan Kyai Tapa, to make jumbo biopore holes.

Process organic waste from residents' homes

Head of RW 02, Andreas explained apart from functioning to sort organic waste, the biopore holes are also useful for groundwater absorption in the densely populated area.

"The material is plastic barrels. We planted them in the garden area. The goal is to process organic waste from residents' homes," he explained, Wednesday (9/2).

He added that his side is collaborating with urban village officials to create biopore holes. In addition to processing land use permits, the urban village also provides guidance on waste management development.

"With the existence of these biopore holes, we hope that residents in all RTs will be more active and accustomed to sorting waste from the source," he added.

Head of Grogol Urban Village, Ady Saputro stated the use of the park area for biopore holes has been cooperated with the West Jakarta Parks and Forestry Sub-agency. In total, there are 10 large biopore holes in the Gropilah Park area.

"The 10 biopore holes can accommodate and process approximately 740 kilograms of waste. We hope this enthusiasm will motivate other RWs to intensify efforts to sort waste at the source," he stated.
